Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time – Sunday, 7th February 2010
...

‘Jesus said to Simon: “Do not be afraid; from now on it is people you will catch.” Then, bringing their boats back to land, they left everything and followed him.’ The image that Jesus uses has a very special relevance for those he was talking to. They were fishermen. But it continues to be relevant for us today because it simply means that our task is to make Christ attractive to and available for the people of our world. This is done first of all in our homes where the faith is handed on by parents in the ways they make their home a place of joy and gladness. This involves giving up their time and their own preoccupations for the sake of each other and their children. It also determines how a faith community is developed. The most important thing about any faith community should be that it is attractive for others. This will mean giving up our own comfort zones so that others can find a home among us.

The Confirmation Pledge

The Bishop no longer administers the Confirmation Pledge (Abstaining from Alcoholic Drink and Illicit Drugs) during the celebration of the sacrament. Instead, it is highly recommended that the children of the Confirmation Class take the pledge from their local priest at a Public Mass in the parish on the Sunday before Lent, the national Day of Temperance. The Sunday before Lent this year is Sunday 14 February and the pledge will be administered at each of our three Parish Masses on that weekend.

Glaslough N.S. go to The Vigil Mass 7.00pm, Glennan

Edenmore N.S. go to 10.00am Mass in Glennan.

Scoil Naomh Pádraig go to 11.30am in Corracrin.

As parents / guardians you are required to discuss the Confirmation Pledge with your child, enabling him or her to understand the commitment involved. Help your child make a decision to take the pledge until such time as they can make another informed and responsible decision about this matter.
