The Confirmation

The Bishop no
longer administers the Confirmation Pledge (Abstaining
from Alcoholic Drink and Illicit Drugs) during the celebration
of the sacrament. Instead, it is highly recommended
that the children of the Confirmation Class take the
pledge from their local priest at a Public Mass in the
parish on the Sunday before Lent, the national Day of
Temperance. The Sunday before Lent this year is Sunday
14 February and the pledge will be administered at each
of our three Parish Masses on that weekend.

As parents / guardians
you are required to discuss the Confirmation Pledge
with your child, enabling him or her to understand the
commitment involved. Help your child make a decision
to take the pledge until such time as they can make
another informed and responsible decision about this
matter.
