Fourth Sunday in Lent – Sunday, 14th March 2010
...

This man”, they said, “welcomes sinners and eats with them.” One of the dangers with religion is that it can be thought of as for good, holy people. And one of the lovely aspects of Christianity, especially as experienced within our Catholic tradition, is that it is for sinners. Holiness is our call, sinner is our condition, and there is no need to worry or be fearful. It can be difficult for us to accept this for ourselves and also for other people around us and so we find ourselves standing in judgement on one another and at times condemning one another. If we want to find Christ, though, we have to learn to reverence the poor, the weak, the sinful, and the faults and failings of others and ourselves. This is why criticism of one another has no part in our following of Christ, whether in our homes, in our close relationships or in our faith community.

New Eucharistic Ministers

This weekend at all masses in the parish we will have a commissioning ceremony for New Eucharistic Ministers. The outgoing team of Eucharistic Ministers deserve our thanks and appreciation for their sterling service.

Rite of Commissioning Eucharistic Ministers

Dear friends in Christ, you are to be entrusted with the ministry of administering Holy Communion. In this ministry you must be examples of Christian living in faith and conduct and aim to grow in holiness through this sacrament of unity and love.

As Eucharistic Ministers you are asked to be especially mindful of the Lord’s command to love your neighbour; for when Christ gave his body as food to his disciples at the Last Supper he gave them a lesson in loving service, washing the feet of his disciples. He also said to them: ‘this is my commandment, love one another as I have loved you’.

Are you resolved to undertake the office of Eucharistic Minister giving the body and blood of The Lord Jesus to your brothers and sisters; and to build up the church as the body of Christ?

Response: I am.

Are you resolved to administer Holy Communion with the utmost care and reverence?

Response: I am.

Let us pray…. Dear friends in Christ, let us ask God our Father to bestow his blessings on these men and women chosen to be Eucharistic Ministers in our parish. May they faithfully give the Bread of Life to your people; and strengthened by The Eucharist themselves, may they come at last to the Banquet of Life Christ has prepared for them.

We make this prayer through Christ, Our Lord…. Amen
