Message From Fr.Cathal
I take this
opportunity to extend my best wishes to everyone for
Christmas. Having spent seven Christmasses in the parish
I know how busy everyone will be over these days getting
ready for the celebrations. I hope it is a blessed time
for all. I am very conscious this year of family and
friends and I know that many of you will be welcoming
family members home for the holidays. Enjoy the great
opportunity that this provides. I am also very aware
of the many people who have experienced a bereavement
during the year and how Christmas can be a sad and lonely
time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers at this
time.
Christmas in New Zealand is certainly different, not
least because the weather is better!! I put up a Christmas
tree last week in the presbytery but it seems strange
as it stays bright until 10pm at this time of the year
so we don't get value for money from Christmas lights
here.
I leave Invercargill on January 4th and travel for a
further two weeks in both New Zealand and Australia
before the next leg of the journey which will take me
to the US for a few months. Please remember me in your
prayers at this time.
Once again best wishes to you all as Christmas approaches.
May the infant Jesus bless you at this time.
Fr.
Cathal
Message
from Fr. Brendan
“Next Sunday
afternoon I set out on my return journey to my parish
back in New Zealand, so I take this opportunity to express
my sincere thanks to you all for the wonderful time
I have experienced here over the last near-four months.
It’s coming to an end all too soon; The hospitality,
generosity, friendliness and camaraderie you have shown
to this antipodean ‘Blow in’ have been great,
which makes it all the more difficult to say goodbye.
But I take very fond memories with me and who knows,
perhaps I may get back to visit again some day? Or perhaps
some of you might make it to New Zealand some time,
in which case I look forward to trying to return some
of the hospitality you have shown me here. [My email
address is ‘bpward@xtra.co.nz’; My street
address is ‘St. Theresa’s, 40 Perth Street,
Invercargill 9801, Invercargill, New Zealand’.
There’s plenty of room for visitors, but don’t
all arrive at once! (Invercargill is the southern-most
city of New Zealand, and a gateway to the major tourist
areas of Stewart Island, Fiordland National Park, and
the Central Lakes District, including Queenstown, Wanaka,
and Milford Sound.)]
I wish to especially acknowledge the kindness and support
of Fr. Hubert and Fr. Sean. The freedom and encouragement
they have accorded me to travel about and experience
as much as possible of the history, culture, and customs
of Ireland has been more than generous, to put it mildly,
and I remain eternally grateful to them.
That’s all from me. Thank you once again; Christmas
blessings, peace and goodwill to you, both now and for
the new year and beyond, wherever the future takes you.
Kia whakapaingia koutou e te Atua Kaha
rawa, te Matua, te Tamaiti, me te Wairua Tapu. Amene...”
