Feast of the Holy Family – 27th December 2009
...Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

"His mother stored up all these things in her heart." One of the lovely things about a new young family is the excitement of recording every movement and sound of the newly born baby. Countless photographs are taken and produced on every occasion. Reports are sent around to family members and anyone else who will listen. This is the picture we have of Mary today as she marvelled at her newborn son Jesus. And this is where real holiness is found. We name Jesus, Mary and Joseph the Holy Family, not because they were pious but because of the great love that filled their hearts and their home. That is the challenge for every home and family. With the pressures of life the wonder of each person can be lost. The pressure of this feast is to get our priorities right, to put our love first and in this way make Jesus present.

This is the Lord for whom we have waited;

Let us rejoice and be glad. (Isaiah 25;9)

They found Mary and Joseph, and the Baby

lying in the manger …. (Luke 2:16).

You will be aware that a new group of Eucharistic Ministers is overdue to be recruited, trained and commissioned; the current team has done more than its fair share. This will be given priority in the new- year and members of the current team are asked to stay in position and cover for absent colleagues until the new team is ready to take over, hopefully before the end of March 2010.

Farewell to Fr. Brendan Ward:

Sunday 27th December marks Fr. Brendan’s last official engagement in the parishes of Donagh and Truagh. Over the last four months it has been our privilege to have him here; and we hope that he will take with him many happy memories. As he leaves he is deeply appreciative of the welcome he received from one and all, young and old.

Coming to an end all too soon, Fr. Brendan’s time among us and his ministry to us has touched the lives and hearts of so many people that he will be long remembered and always welcome back. Fr. Cathal Deery has been equally well received in New Zealand; and he too is deeply appreciative of his experience there. The idea of an exchange between Fr. Cathal and Fr. Brendan has worked out so well for each of them. We wish both of them well on the return leg of their respective journeys and pray that God will bless them with health and happiness throughout 2010 and in the years ahead.

Eucharistic Adoration:

In the Oratory all day every Tuesday from after 10.00am Mass. This is a beautiful tradition, a steady stream of people praying continuously for the day. Those who participate experience calm and peace in their lives. More volunteers are needed, particularly between 5.00pm and 7.00pm.
