Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time – Sunday, 31st January 2010
...

Jesus said: “I tell you solemnly, no prophet is ever accepted in his own country”. The word prophet conjures up the image of someone who foretells the future, a bit like a fortune-teller. No! A prophet is someone who gets to the deepest reality of human life and is able to proclaim that this deepest reality will come to the surface sooner or later and calls us to make it sooner. Generally people don’t like to hear about these deepest realities because they get used to the way things are. A good example of this is: the deepest reality of marriage is that it is a sacrament, a source of Christ’s presence in and salvation of the world we live in. Couples need to do a lot more to bring their love to that pitch. Every home is a Domestic Church, a sacred place. Every parish is the living Body of Christ. We have a lot of change to work on.

New Missalette and Parish Bulletin:

Hope you like it! One identifiable disadvantage with the two separate A4 leaflets has been the tendency to take the bulletin home while disregarding the Missalette containing the Word of God, Prayers of the Mass and other insightful items of interest to the discerning Christian. This new format increases the possibility of The Word of God being brought into more homes and providing the opportunity for a moment of prayer or a thought for the day.

While proof-reading, editing, printing and updating of the Parish Website depends on FAS employees Amanda and Maggie, two parishioners deserve our heartfelt thanks for their unstinting service over many years: Jayne McGorman who has researched and edited the various interesting items on the reverse side of the Missalette; and Eileen Simpson who has acted and will continue as typist and secretary of the bulletin.

Items for inclusion in the bulletin must be of community rather than commercial interest; and should reach the Parish Office E-mail donaghparish @emyvale.eu not later than Wednesday. Note that the price has been increased to 30 cent.

Donagh Community Games

At a recent meeting of Donagh Community Games Committee a number of
proposals relating to this year's competitions were discussed and adopted. These proposals arose as a result of the unprecedented success we enjoyed in 2009. There are 3 phases of competitions in the Community games.
Community Games rules state that a child can represent the Parish in only one team event outside the county per phase. In order to avoid last year's congestion, when a large number of children had very difficult decisions to make in team choices, the following amendments have been introduced for 2010.

1. Children can participate in a maximum of 2 team sports in each phase.

2. If a child is fortunate to win two county titles in different team sports, they will be asked to represent the parish in the sport for which they are the right age.

3. If a child wins two county titles in two events of the same age, the child will decide which event to participate in.
If you require any further clarification of the above, please contact any of the following committee members: Keith Murphy (Chairman) 086+1074327, Paul Hamill (Child protection Officer) 086-9906234, Gail Drayne (Secretary) 086-8449496 or Enda O'Brien (Ass. Secretary) 086-1959386
